Dr. Lovetta A. Brown was an amazing woman. She graduated from Lincoln High School at 16 and received a scholarship to begin college at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Brown was able to go on to the Medical College of Wisconsin; then, as a young doctor, she earned a master's degree in public health from John Hopkins University. She was a great humanitarian who served the State of Mississippi. Her work included helping to create the Mississippi Health Awareness Project, a community health organization in the northern part of the state. She also was responsible for structure development and mission implementation of the Office of Health Disparity Elimination in 2003. Other roles included helping the first Boys and Girls Club in northwestern Mississippi. In 1998 Dr. Brown was named physician of the year by the National Health Service Corp.
